Lavender Flower & Rosemary

Just beyond the southernmost suburbs of Silicon Valley there grows a chaparral full of scrubby, sun-beaten brush and sturdy oaks reminiscent of Spanish hillsides. So similar was it to their Mediterranean home that, along with the gospel, Franciscan monks saw fit to carry a clutch of their most cherished herbs across the Atlantic. Like breadcrumbs leading back into the landscape of time, Lavender and Rosemary now dot the hillsides, singing their heady aromas into the heat of the midday sun.
